Gephardt Gallbladder Is Removed in Surgery
Rep. Richard A. Gephardt (D-Mo.) underwent surgery to remove his gallbladder Thursday, a day after he was chosen by fellow House Democrats as minority leader when the new Congress convenes in January.
A statement from Gephardt’s office said that the congressman was “resting comfortably” after the surgery and that he was expected to remain at Bethesda Naval Hospital until the weekend. “A full recovery is expected,” the statement said.
The 53-year-old lawmaker had first suffered abdominal pains on Tuesday and tests revealed the presence of gallstones.
