THE BIZ : Hollywood Parks

Looking for that big break? Think all you need is the right contact? You might have better luck at a park than at Morton’s. Try taking your toddler (or borrow a friend’s) and let them break the ice. A guide to who hangs were:

Silver Lake Rec Center: Screenwriters. Look for the parents with the glazed look in their eyes, trying to hold paper cups of coffee while pushing their precocious kids in the swing.

Roxby Rec Center, Beverly Hills: Producers (and other people with investment potential). Their kids’ toy cars are more expensive than half the cars on the freeway. If you can exchange tips on shopping and private school admissions, your career could be made. Visit on Saturdays or you’ll only meet the nannies.

Elysian Park: Cinematographers and production designers. It might be something about the lights of Dodger Stadium glowing in the evening sky. Production designers have paint on their shoes; cinematographers are always looking up.

Franklin Park, Hollywood: Actors. These are without a doubt the most attractive parents in town. They look casually beautiful in parent grunge, which on them always seems to expose a lot of skin.

Crescent Bay Park, Santa Monica: Directors. It’s not true that they all wear sweat pants and baseball caps; sometimes they wear shorts. You’ll know who they are by the way they talk to their children: “Let’s try going down the slide again, this time with a smile.”
