Latin Trade Conference: “Inside the Americas: A Report on Mexico, Colombia and Brazil” will take place today and Tuesday starting at 8 a.m. at the Institute of the Americas Conference Center on the UC San Diego campus. The conference is designed to give Southern California business people fresh updates and insights into the commercial and trade environments in three countries that have each recently elected new presidents. Speakers include Mauricio Reina, Colombia’s foreign trade vice minister; Ernesto Guhl, Colombia’s environment vice minister; E.V. Everardo Elizondo, chief economist at Bancomer, Mexico’s second-largest bank, and Marcilio Marques Moreira, Brazil’s former minister of finance. David Beall, deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, will also speak. Topics of discussion include post-election outlooks for trade in the respective countries as well as a NAFTA implementation updates. Gil Partida, president of the Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce is also scheduled to talk about the border economy. “This is a way of keeping up to date on the economic, business and trade climate in three key Latin American markets,” an Institute spokesman said.
