Foreign Investment Rises 44%: In the first 10 months of the year, foreign investment in China rose 44% to $25.234 billion, the official China media reports. What investors have pledged to spend in the future continued to drop, however, with $62.58 billion promised for 37,735 projects through October. This year is certain to top last year’s $26 billion, according to the newspapers. Last year only the United States attracted more foreign investment, with $32 billion. Overseas companies are keen to tap into the world’s fastest-growing economy and most-populous market. Since China began opening to the world in 1978, foreigners have invested $83 billion.
