Huntington Beach

City Council meeting

When: Today, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Council chambers, 2000 Main St.

What: A reception for outgoing Mayor Linda Moulton Patterson and council members Grace Winchell, Earle Robitaille and Jim Silva will take place at 5 p.m. in Room B-7. Incoming council members Ralph Bauer, Shirley S. Dettloff, Peter M. Green and Dave Garofalo will be sworn in. Councilman Victor Leipzig is expected to be selected mayor for next year. The council will consider selecting a public works director and decide how to fill the vacancy on the council when Silva leaves in January. Silva was elected to the Board of Supervisors.

Garden Grove

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday, 7 p.m.

Where: Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.

What: Bruce A. Broadwater will be seated as mayor, and Mark Leyes and Robert F. Dinsen will return for four-year terms on the council. Frank Kessler, a former Garden Grove police chief, will be honored as outgoing mayor. The council also will consider appointing Tony Ingegneri, who received the third highest number of votes among the 12 council candidates in the Nov. 8 election. If appointed, he will finish the remaining two years of Broadwater’s term.

Irvine

School board meeting

When: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: 5050 Barranca Parkway

What: The Irvine Unified School District board again will discuss the procedure for replacing former Supt. David E. Brown, who left in October to become superintendent of the Napa Valley Unified School District. The board may decide whether to limit the search to candidates within the school district, or launch a nationwide search.

Buena Park

City Council meeting

When: Today, 5 p.m.

Where: Civic Center Plaza, 6650 Beach Blvd.

What: The city will certify election results by which Councilman Arthur C. Brown was reelected for a second term by a margin of 34 votes. New council members Patsy Marshall and Gerald N. Sigler will take their seats and the council will say farewell to outgoing members Donna L. Chessen and Rhonda J. McCune. The council then will vote for mayor, likely to be current Mayor Pro Tem Don R. Griffin. Current Mayor Donald L. Bone will return to being a councilman.
