The company that acquired the Newbury Park medical testing center of Damon Corp. earlier this year has closed the facility and moved its operations to Burbank.

Physicians Clinical Laboratory Inc., which purchased Damon’s California operations from Corning Inc. in April, has started work at its new Southern California regional hub lab in Burbank.

Along with the former Newbury Park lab, another Physicians testing unit in Glendale has also been closed, the company reports.

The new 100,000-square-foot regional center is large enough to accommodate future acquisitions, Physicians said. The complex “will enable the company to sustain and further the growth we have experienced to date,” said Nathan L. Headley, Physicians’ president and chief executive.

Physicians, based in Sacramento, claims to be the fastest-growing company in the clinical laboratory industry. It has three full-service labs and numerous other labs and patient service centers throughout California.
