The Right Start to Sell Children’s Wear Digest

Share

The Right Start Inc., a Westlake Village catalogue marketer of children’s products, said it has agreed to sell its Children’s Wear Digest business. Terms of the cash transaction were not disclosed.

The buyer is a private investor group led by Philip Klaus Jr., president of Children’s Wear Digest. The deal is expected to close by Dec. 31. As a result of the sale, The Right Start will post a one-time, pretax charge of about $1.5 million for its fiscal second quarter that ended Nov. 23.

Children’s Wear Digest specializes in upscale, brand-name clothes for kids up to 12. The Right Start acquired the catalogue two years ago, but the company said it now wants to devote its resources to its retail expansion, and proceeds from the sale will provide the funds needed to continue adding new stores. It expects to have 12 retail outlets open by the end of the year, up from five before beginning the expansion last month.
