Searchers found a missing San Francisco Bay Area man alive at Squaw Valley USA on Monday, nearly 48 hours after he was last seen at the resort.

Squaw Valley spokeswoman Janna Garza said Alan Austin, 45, was spotted from a helicopter Monday afternoon.

Garza said Austin apparently was unharmed by his ordeal, but said she had no details. He was expected to be flown to Truckee-Tahoe Hospital in Truckee.

Austin, of Atherton, was last seen late Saturday. He was skiing with his two daughters and told them he wanted to take one final trip down the resort’s KT-22 run before quitting for the day.

He was spotted on the Alpine Meadows side of the KT ridge, Garza said. His discovery came after resort ski patrol members conducted extensive sweeps of the run and adjoining runs along with Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue Team members.

Officials said wet deep snow and high winds hampered search efforts. A weekend storm left nearly three feet of new snow at the resort.
