Diagnostic Solutions Inc.: The LifeScan unit of Johnson & Johnson said Tuesday it has settled lawsuits against three companies, including Irvine-based Diagnostic Solutions Inc., that challenged its hold on the $250-million market for strips used in diabetes home test kits.

LifeScan, based in Milpitas, would not provide terms of the settlements with Diagnostic Solutions, Can-Am Care Corp. and Chronimed Inc. LifeScan called the agreement “a major victory,” saying that the companies admitted having violated LifeScan’s patents and agreed to sell their products under license in the future.

Minneapolis-based Chronimed said it sells the test strips under the Quick Check One brand name. Can-Am, based in Chazy, N.Y., distributes generic test strips manufactured by Diagnostic Solutions.

Gary Krantz, president of Diagnostic Solutions, would not comment Tuesday on the terms of the settlement but said that the privately held firm will not be financially hurt by the action.
