CERRITOS : City Council Boosts Its Travel Allowance

Share

The City Council, asserting that driving around on official business has become more costly, has increased its monthly car allowance.

Council members voted 4 to 1 to raise their stipend for gasoline, auto maintenance and insurance from $250 to $400 a month, the first increase since 1986.

Mayor Pro Tem Grace Hu said she voted for the increase because traveling costs are higher for council members, who drive to meetings throughout the county. The higher stipend matches the amount paid to city department heads. Mayor Paul W. Bowlen voted against the measure. “I think (the car allowance) was sufficient the way it was,” he said.
