Los Angeles has its trendy bistros. Philadelphia has its steak sandwich. New York has the pizza.

Orange County’s culinary claim to fame may well be found at Knott’s Berry Farm, home to famous fried chicken served plump and crispy with a basket of buttery biscuits, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and berry pie.

Patrons wait in line for half an hour or more to eat at the restaurant, which serves 1,000 chickens and 500 pies daily.

Knott’s Berry Farm officials say the restaurant’s busiest day was Mother’s Day, 1982, when 8,400 meals were served.

The restaurant’s popularity spawned a take-out window.
