British Firm Sues Bankers Trust: Bankers Trust New York Co. Inc., a big derivatives trader, has been hit with another lawsuit by a customer who alleges it was misled about the risks of the exotic securities. A subsidiary of Carlton Communications, a British media firm, charged in the suit that the bank’s investment management division used deceptive practices when it traded in risky securities on Carlton’s behalf. Carlton lost $4.4 million on the investments, according to a suit filed in October but first disclosed in Thursday’s editions of the Wall Street Journal. The company seeks restitution plus expenses. Bankers Trust denied that it misled Carlton, saying the firm knew how its money was invested.
