Strong Winds, Cold Weather Continue to Hit

Gusting winds whipped through Ventura County on Thursday after another night of low temperatures continued to keep the agricultural community on edge.

A high pressure system in Nevada funneled air through mountain passes and into Camarillo and Simi Valley, kicking winds up to about 45 m.p.h. across much of the county, forecasters said.

On the ocean along the Ventura coast, the U. S. Coast Guard reported a small-craft advisory as winds churned up swells of four to eight feet.

Temperatures Wednesday night and early Thursday dipped into the mid-30s, precariously close to the freezing temperatures that could threaten citrus crops in the county.

Forecasters said a wind advisory would remain in effect today, and overnight low temperatures tonight could be expected to hover in the mid- to upper 30s, said Joe Dandrea, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
