Making Remakes
Re Richard Natale’s article “Why Bother to Make Remakes?” (Dec. 5), I, too, feel that the only films that should be remade are those that didn’t get it right the first time. In the old studio days, the moguls spewed forth remake after remake. However, this was before TV and VCRs--we had only our memories.
Today, we can see these classics almost at will. The current “Love Affair” pales beside the first version and “An Affair to Remember.” Dunne/Boyer and Kerr/Grant knock Beatty/Bening and misplaced ‘90s sensibilities out of the ring.
