Britannia Gas Field Development OKd: Regulators approved development of the field, one of Britain’s largest and most important offshore natural gas sites, Chevron Corp. said. The Britannia Field is in the central North Sea about 130 miles north of Aberdeen, Scotland, and contains about 2.5 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas. It also has up to 140 million barrels of recoverable condensate and natural gas liquids. Two companies jointly operate the field: Chevron U.K. Ltd. and Conoco (U.K.) Ltd. Plans call for production to begin in the fourth quarter of 1998 and to run for up to 30 years.
