11 Teachers Make ‘Who’s Who’ List

Eleven teachers from the Tustin Unified School District have made it to this year’s list of “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.”

They were selected by their former students who themselves are currently listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” or were on the National Dean’s List.

Selected were Patricia Andrews of Heideman Elementary; Jan Cogan and Linda Minor of A.G. Currie Middle School; Joan Kasper, Jan Laurie and Susan Radley of Foothill High School; William Eilerts, Rick Falk, Marilyn Lusk, Enola Sleeper and Brad Thomas of Tustin High.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY

Grant to Fund Choral Program

More than 100 Fountain Valley School District students have signed up for a choral program that is being offered for the first time in eight years. The program for students in grades five through eight is being funded by a $14,000 grant from the nonprofit Fountain Valley Educational Foundation.

Tom Reid, the vocal-music teacher at Fountain Valley High School who is coordinating the program, said the choral group will perform on March 23, June 1 and June 2.

School Is Busy Building ‘Bridges’

Principal Paul Klempner wears construction gear for his classroom visits at Isojiro Oka Elementary School in Huntington Beach to promote this year’s schoolwide theme, “Building a Bridge of Compassion.” During his presentation, Klempner and the students discuss empathy and forgiveness, understanding and acceptance, kindness and service. These are used as “blueprints” in construction of students’ bridges of compassion.

PTA Introduces Students to Artists

Students at Raymond Temple Elementary School are learning the work of artistic masters using supplies not usually found in the financially strapped art rooms of schools.

The PTA has raised the money to bring eight “Meet the Masters” assemblies to each grade level. Students see slides of great paintings or drawings and learn about a particular angle of the work, such as the picture’s line, color, shape or texture.

TUSTIN

New School to House About 650 Students

The Tustin Unified School District broke ground recently for its first elementary school in Tustin Ranch. The school, at Robinson and Keller streets, is expected to accommodate about 650 students from kindergarten to fifth grade when it opens in the fall of 1995. Construction of the $6-million project has begun and is expected to be completed in July.
