Support for ‘Pops’

News that “Evening at Pops” may die for lack of sponsor support leads me to suggest a change in PBS’ approach to listener support: Allow program-specific contributions (“ ‘Pops’ Could Go Pop,” Morning Report, Nov. 21). I’d be glad to pay to support the Pops but would hate to have my dollars supporting the appalling new PBS quiz show and the crass infomercial series for outdoor gear.
I recognize that PBS needs the flexibility of undesignated contributions. How about a compromise: Permit 50% of each contribution to be earmarked for a favorite series while the other half goes into the general fund?
