Pressing the Issue of Life’s Stresses

Re: “Five Witnesses to Jet Crash Sue, Claiming Distress,” (Dec. 17):

I too want to be included in the suit against the owners of the plane that crashed carrying several executives of the In-N-Out Burger chain. I’ll also be suing the L.A. Times. I read about the crash in The Times and it scared the heck out of me. Now I have trouble sleeping and I get flashbacks whenever I hear The Times being delivered at the house. I’ve been diagnosed as having post-traumatic-press syndrome.

* It is a sad commentary on our society that many people cannot accept the risks of living without having to find someone to sue for their perceived traumas. The five people who experienced some trauma witnessing a tragic plane accident have unmitigated gall in saying that soldiers expect to see such horror. They sure didn’t until it landed on them in the heat of first battle! Where would this country be if every serviceman sued over battle scars?

Life is a risk from the day we’re born. Joy, sadness, stress and adversity are all a part of our living experience. I’m disgusted with people who lash out at someone for their problems when was no injury was intended.

I suggest the five people who are a party to this lawsuit visit their respective pastor or private counselor if necessary, but quit trying to find someone to blame and bilk.
