Rio’s Yule Bell Is One for the Book
A vast bell that looms over a beachside neighborhood of Rio is making a bid for the record books as the world’s largest-ever Christmas decoration.
“It’s the world’s biggest and we’ve filed the proof to the Guinness Book,” Luiz Alberto Marinho, marketing manager with Barrashopping, Latin America’s largest shopping mall, said Friday.
Shoppers, sweltering in the heat of a Southern Hemisphere summer, have marveled at the 153-feet red bell that cost $250,000 and swings and chimes on the hour.
At night, 750,000 bulbs illuminate the 15-ton construction.
