Storm Brings County a Wet Christmas Eve
Santa and his reindeer were drenched Saturday night when a south-moving storm dumped rain on Orange County beginning about 8:30 p.m.
A forecaster expected the showers to last through the night and into Christmas morning, with cloudy skies remaining all afternoon. Orange County could collect as much as an inch of rain by the time the storm moves out, according to James McCutcheon, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.
On Sunday, “it could be some showers, mainly in the morning,” McCutcheon said. “I’d expect those to taper off through the afternoon.”
The Pacific storm began Saturday afternoon in Santa Barbara and gained strength as it drove south, McCutcheon said. Thunder and lightning accompanied the rain, he said.
He predicted high temperatures in the low 60s Christmas Day, with the mercury dropping to about 40 on Sunday night.
