UPI, AT&T; Discuss Forming Venture: United Press International, the privately held news wire service, said it is in talks with the long-distance telephone company, possibly to provide on-line information services. Such an agreement would enhance AT&T; Corp.’s push into the $6-billion on-line services market; the firm bought Ziff Communications Co.’s on-line business last week. AT&T; officials refused to comment. Ziff’s Interchange Network is being tested and is expected to be launched in 1995. MCI Communications Corp. and Ameritech Corp., the Chicago-based Bell operating company, have also talked to UPI about a joint venture, said Ron MacIntyre, UPI vice president of marketing.
