WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Bruins Play Kentucky; USC, 49ers Tangle

The UCLA women’s basketball team will play host to Kentucky at 5 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion today, and USC will play host to Long Beach State at 7:30 in the Lyon Center to open its three-night round-robin tournament.

UCLA’s Kisa Hughes averaged 19.7 points and a tournament-high 12.7 rebounds to lead the 4-3 Bruins to the final of the three-day Northern Lights tournament at Anchorage, Alaska, last week, where UCLA lost to 8-2 Clemson, 79-62.

Kentucky (3-5) is led by Stacey Reed, a guard who averages 14 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.

The 21st-ranked Trojans (5-1) trail the 49ers in their all-time series, 26-13. Long Beach (2-3) has won seven of the last eight, but USC won the last one, two years ago, 101-48.

USC’s tournament continues in the Lyon Center Thursday, when Long Beach will play North Carolina Charlotte (5-1) at 7:30 p.m., and concludes Friday, when USC plays North Carolina Charlotte at 7:30 p.m.
