Schaefer Takes on New Job at Western Financial Savings

Joy Schaefer has been named senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of Western Financial Savings Bank in Irvine. She had been chief financial officer and treasurer of both the parent company, Westcorp, and the bank for the past three years. In addition, Lee Whatcott has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer of the bank. Whatcott had been controller of Westcorp and the bank for the past three years. Also, J. Keith Palmer was named treasurer, having served as assistant treasurer for the past year.

* Kathleen M. Gardarian has been elected to the board of Vans, an Orange shoe manufacturer, increasing the number of directors to nine. Gardarian is owner and president of Qualis International, an Irvine international trading and distribution company.

* Monica Florian has been installed as president of the Building Industry Assn.’s Orange County chapter. She succeeds 1993-94 president Bart Hansen of Shawntana Development. Florian is senior vice president of corporate affairs for Irvine Co.

* Thomas V. Joyce has been appointed to the new position of director of value-added services for Ingram Micro, a Santa Ana wholesale distributor of microcomputer products. Before joining the company, Joyce was vice president for operations support at EuroDisney. He also was a director in corporate finance for Walt Disney Co.

* Greg Anderson, a partner with Deloitte & Touche LLP, has moved his Health Systems Center of Expertise operation from Los Angeles to the Costa Mesa offices. The center provides consulting services to health care providers, insurers and managed-care organizations.

* Nancy Pagni has been appointed manager of the Northwest region office for DNA Labor Services in Santa Ana and its transportation affiliate, TLC Services. She will be based in the Tacoma, Wash., office. Pagni was previously with Superior Fast Freight for more than 15 years.

* Bernard Newman has joined Koll, an Irvine commercial real estate company, as director of the new facilities administrative services group, which provides clients with mail, distribution, reception, message center, conference room scheduling and shipping and receiving services. Newman was previously national marketing manager for Tascor, an Atlanta subsidiary of Norrell Corp. and IBM. He also spent 10 years with Pitney Bowes.
