WOMEN’S BASKETBALL : Thompson’s 24 Leads USC Over UNC Charlotte

USC, ranked 21st in the nation, scored a convincing, 84-69 victory over North Carolina Charlotte Friday night in the final of the USC Christmas Challenge at Lyon Center.
The Trojans (7-1) got 24 points from sophomore forward Tina Thompson, while senior guard Karleen Shields and junior forward Jody Anton each scored 19.
Lisa Gerton led the 49ers (6-2) with 20 points.
The Trojans, who open Pacific 10 play against Oregon State Thursday, shot 51% from the floor and 66% from the free-throw line.
