COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Sabbara’s 15 Spark Concordia in 95-74 Victory

Sam Sabbara led Concordia University (10-1) with 15 points and helped seal a 95-74 victory over Concordia (Minn.) College in nonconference men’s basketball Friday at Concordia University.

Hitting six for six from the field and three for three from the line, Sabbara led seven teammates in double figures.

Concordia University’s Tim Morris scored 13 points in 18 minutes. Teammate Jeff Putnam added 12 points and three blocks and Danny Barajas also scored 12, with four steals.

In nonconference men’s basketball:

Concordia (Ore.) 77, Southern California College 74--Southern California College (7-6) could not overcome a four-point halftime deficit. Mike Guevara and Kevin Carlson each had 13 points to lead the Vanguards.

In the UC San Diego Invitational:

Middlebury (Vt.) 70, Chapman 53--Chapman shot 29.8% for the game and finished fourth in the tournament. Melody Earle led the Panthers (5-5) with 11 points.

In nonconference women’s basketball:

Colorado 84, UC Irvine 47--The Anteaters missed 20 of 25 shots in the first half and trailed by 38 points at halftime to No. 9 Colorado.

Concordia (Wis.) 58, Southern California College 45--Tied, 26-26, at halftime, the Vanguards only scored 19 points in the second half, giving Concordia (9-2) the victory. Tina Southard led Southern California (3-6) with 11 points.
