Police are searching for a Santa Monica man who kidnaped his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint from her new boyfriend’s apartment Monday night.

Los Angeles police said the victim, Irma Hernandez, was not harmed in the abduction and was released the next day.

Hernandez, 31, was at her boyfriend’s home in the 1700 block of Federal Avenue on Dec. 26 when her ex-boyfriend, identified only as Oscar, and five of his friends showed up, said Los Angeles Police Lt. Frank Spangler.

Oscar, 19, allegedly knocked on the door at 10:20 p.m., armed with a 12-gauge shotgun while a second suspect carried a .25-caliber, semiautomatic handgun, Spangler said.

An unidentified man inside the apartment opened the door, and when ordered, directed Oscar and his friends to the bedroom where Hernandez was sleeping.

Oscar, apparently upset that Hernandez had a new boyfriend, ordered her out of the home at gunpoint, Spangler said.

As the intruders were leaving, they allegedly stole a VCR, a camera and a radio. The suspects may have driven away in a red Hyundai Excel, Spangler said.

Police said they are seeking Oscar and the five unidentified suspects on suspicion of kidnaping and armed robbery.
