Defense of INS
May I take this opportunity to defend the Immigration and Naturalization Service. I have had no problem when dealing with them. Initially, I had to deal with an attorney who for the outrageous sum of $1,500 arranged for me to obtain my green card. Two years later I returned to him to obtain my permanent green card. He requested another $1,500. We declined and I visited the Downtown L.A. INS offices, where I obtained the necessary forms. I mailed the paperwork along with a check for $35 and later received my green card, saving $1,465!
In 1993 I applied for citizenship, completed the forms, attended the interview and last June became a citizen.
