HUNTINGTON BEACH : Moulton Patterson Rules Out Council Bid

Former mayor and councilwoman Linda Moulton Patterson announced Tuesday that she will not seek the vacant seat on the City Council.

Moulton Patterson said in a prepared statement that she volunteered last month to serve on the council to save the cost of a special election and to keep her seat on the California Coastal Commission.

“I now plan to complete my duties on the Coastal Commission this month and then return to private life, my family and my consulting business,” Moulton Patterson said.

Moulton Patterson’s term on the Coastal Commission has not expired, but to keep her appointment, she must hold elected office. Moulton Patterson’s council term was up in November. She unsuccessfully ran against Councilman Jim Silva for the 2nd District seat on the Board of Supervisors in the November election.

The council decided last month to appoint someone to fill Silva’s remaining two years on the council.

Silva turned in his resignation and gave his farewell address at Tuesday’s council meeting.

According to the city clerk’s office, 27 people have obtained applications seeking appointment to the seven-member council. As of Tuesday, 11 have returned their forms.

Applications will be accepted until Monday. Interviews by the City Council are scheduled for Jan. 17.
