Children’s programs--The Oak Canyon Nature Center in Anaheim is sponsoring afternoon classes for children ages 6 to 12.

This week’s sessions will focus on prehistoric art. Students will learn to draw a dinosaur, and the classes may involve hiking, scientific experiments, games and art projects.

The sessions run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. There is a $3 fee for each session. The center is at 6700 Walnut Canyon Road. For more information, call (714) 998-8380.

To get to the Oak Canyon Nature Center, take the Riverside Freeway east to the Imperial Highway turnoff. Exit and head south to Nohl Ranch Road. Turn left, travel about three miles to Walnut Canyon Road and turn left again. Pass the Anaheim Hills Golf Course; the nature center is at the end of the road, with parking on the left.

Snow survival--The Oak Canyon Nature Center is also offering a class Saturday on snow camping survival skills for adults.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. and last for about an hour. The center is at 6700 Walnut Canyon Road, Anaheim. For more information, call (714) 998-8380.

Calling all hands--Sherman Library and Gardens in Corona del Mar is looking for volunteers to lead tours of the facility.

People of all levels of experience in horticulture, from novices to experts, are invited to become docents.

Volunteers will be trained in plant behavior and characteristics, botanical terms and environmental awareness.
