Foundation Grants Funds to Boost Magnolia Schools’ Science Programs
The Magnolia School District has received a $25,000 grant from Medtronic Foundation to improve its science curriculum.
The grant, one of four awarded recently by the maker of therapeutic medical supplies, will be used to purchase supplies for science classes at each of the district’s eight elementary schools.
Assistant superintendent for instructional services Robert Pantle said the grant also will help the district continue a cooperative program with UC Irvine.
“The university provides scientists to give teacher in-service to our teachers,” Pantle said. “Those teachers had requested a list of supplies that we weren’t able to buy because of budget restraints. Now we can buy those supplies.”
In addition, the Irvine Unified School District got a $20,175 grant to build a portable planetarium.
Columbus Tustin Middle School received a $6,404 grant to study oceanography, and Savanna High School got a $5,000 grant to design a curriculum that integrates life sciences, English, math and photography.
