Riled by Johnson’s Attack on Ferguson

Share

For now, there is no election date set--or any official candidates running--to replace Marian Bergeson, who just left her Senate seat to be sworn in as an Orange County supervisor. Yet, I’ve already received in my mailbox a slick and sleazy piece of political attack mail from the “Ross Johnson for Senate Committee.”

This brochure was postmarked less than two months after Johnson was reelected to the Assembly. I guess he’s decided now is the time to reveal that he had no intention of serving in the office, which he asked voters to entrust him with and in which he led them to believe he would represent them.

Johnson obviously doesn’t deserve to be trusted, so why should I believe his attacks on Gil Ferguson, who served this district in the Assembly with honor and distinction for a decade?

Johnson’s own district is located in north Orange County, far away from the voters he now wants to represent. But his mail piece lists an Irvine address for his Senate campaign office.

When I tried to call to ask a question, I found out he was using a rental mailbox from Mail Boxes Etc. instead of the “suite” he identifies as his “address.”

* The battle for control of the State Assembly now underway is extremely important to our state’s future and especially to Orange County.

Yet it’s clear now that two of our own representatives are playing right into Willie Brown’s attempt to cling to power despite the Republican majority elected in November.

Assembly members Ross Johnson of Placentia and Doris Allen of Cypress have begun campaigning for the vacated Senate seat of Marian Bergeson. If either were elected, Brown would surely regain the Speakership the minute they left the Assembly.

Johnson and Allen are willing to abandon their fellow Republicans and cancel out the effect of the expected successful recall of Paul Horcher, the turncoat who voted for Brown as Speaker after winning reelection as a Republican. Assemblyman Richard Mountjoy’s valiant decision to give up the Senate seat he already won in order to keep Brown from power, would also be for naught.

Johnson is seeking to deflect attention from his disloyalty. He just sent out a despicable mailer against former Assemblyman Gil Ferguson, who was the first to announce as a candidate.

Republican voters deserve to be informed about what’s in store for us if we, by electing Allen or Johnson, blindly enable Democrat Willie Brown to regain the all-powerful Speaker’s post!
