Cypress

City Council meeting

When: Today, 7:30 p.m.

Where: City Council chambers, 5275 Orange Ave.

What: The council will consider extending for another 14 days its emergency proclamation covering residents’ damage due to recent rainstorms. The city first declared an emergency Jan. 5, after a heavy rainfall and flooding the previous day. The declaration of emergency later was extended through today. “A proclamation (under state law) can only last 14 days, and if we don’t issue a new one, the last proclamation expires,” said city Public Works Director Mark Christoffels. “The city is considering an extension of the proclamation because some residents are still filing claims, and this would give them another 14 days to act.”

Villa Park

City Council meeting

When: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.

Where: City Hall, 17855 Santiago Blvd.

What: The City Council will consider giving first reading to an ordinance that would tighten controls on people who work out of their homes in the city. The proposed changes would define the amount of space in a home that may be used for work, expand controls on “nuisance aspects” of homes used as work places, and limit the amount of vehicular and pedestrian traffic allowed at a residence that is also used as a work place.
