OXNARD : Takasugi Named to Revenue Panel

Assemblyman Nao Takasugi (R-Oxnard) announced this week that he has been named vice chairman of the Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee, his first leadership position as a state lawmaker.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Takasugi said Thursday. “It is going to give me a leadership role in this very important committee. I’m looking forward to the work.”

In a power-sharing agreement arranged by Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, a yet-to-be named Democrat will head the committee as chairman. But the committee, like the other 25 Assembly panels, will be divided with an equal number of Democrats and Republicans.

Takasugi said the power-sharing arrangement reinforces the need for bipartisan cooperation. “In this current situation, everyone needs to be working together,” said the second-term assemblyman who represents a district that stretches from Oxnard to Thousand Oaks. “That’s the only way we are going to do the work of the people here.”

Takasugi hopes the Revenue and Taxation Committee will work this year toward reducing state taxes on personal and corporate income.

Among other issues, he said, “we need to provide some tax credits for businesses in California to keep them here in the state and change their minds about moving out.”
