The Agony of Acne Is Very Real

Re “Suffering in Silence” (Jan. 10): Of the 237 “Teen Talk” programs I produced and hosted, none was more difficult to staff than our show on acne.

It was no problem finding pregnant girls, prostitutes or drug addicts willing to appear on the show. But young people with acne felt such embarrassment, pain and low self-esteem, they refused en masse.

Through the efforts of a dermatologist in Santa Barbara and with the promise the show would not air there, we were able to find six youngsters willing to tell their stories.
