Teed Off at Idea for Chatsworth Reservoir

I was shocked and amazed at Paul Mathews’ article saying that Chatsworth Reservoir should be turned into a golf course (Valley Commentary, Jan. 8).

I went to the reservoir on a school field trip, and I was amazed at the natural beauty of the place. It is not the “wasteland” Mathews makes it out to be. Native plants give the animals shelter. This “wasteland” is home to a family of kildeer, a kind of bird that we saw on our trip. A mother was guarding the camouflaged eggs that blended into the ground. If people were allowed to go in freely, the eggs would be smashed in no time.

A golf course is the worst possible thing to put in any natural area.
