Justice Says AirTouch Should Be Treated Like a Baby Bell: The wireless communications company that was spun off from the regional Bell operating company Pacific Telesis should be subject to the consent decree governing the breakup of the old Bell System, the Department of Justice said. That would prevent AirTouch from offering long-distance services or manufacturing equipment. But AirTouch has asked the judge who oversees the decree to throw out the recommendation, and there is a strong chance Congress will pass legislation this year that will render the decree moot.
