Safety Components International Inc.: The Costa Mesa manufacturer of automotive air bags and supplier of ordnance and other related products said profit for its third fiscal quarter totaled $579,000, or 14 cents a share. That compared to earnings of $146,000 for the same period a year earlier. Sales for the quarter ended Dec. 31 more than doubled to $14.8 million from $6 million. Year-to-date profit was $1.2 million, or 31 cents a share, contrasted with a loss of $665,000 for the first three quarters of the previous year. Nine-month sales rose to $34.3 million from $15.6 million.
