LOS ANGELES : Eastern Sierra Snowpack Put at 175% of Normal
Preliminary figures indicate that the eastern Sierra Nevada snowpack holds enough water to tide the city of Los Angeles over for the year, officials said Tuesday.
“We’re already up above April 1 levels and approximately 175% of normal for this time of the year at Mammoth,” said Jerry Gewe, a Department of Water and Power senior engineer.
The DWP is expected to release a report today with figures on the eastern Sierra snowpack, the city’s main water source, spokeswoman Debra Sass said.
Tuesday, officials at the state Department of Water Resources said the water content of snow in the Sierra is nearly twice normal for this time of year.
