‘Compassion Game’

The tone of several of the letters in “Future of Liberals, Democratic Party” (Jan. 22) is just another example of the “we care, you don’t” type of argument that we conservatives have had to put up with from liberals for years. Liberals, with some justification, are offended when religious conservatives get on their moral soapbox, yet they will not hesitate to claim the moral high ground in the “I’m more compassionate than you are” game.

With few exceptions, neither liberals nor conservatives like to see people suffer, it’s just that each side has a different philosophy on how to best prevent it. To debate the merits of each approach is fine and proper, but let’s get off this tactic of attacking the other side’s motives.
