Obituaries : Gertrude M. Houseman; 25-Year Ventura Resident

Gertrude Mary Houseman, a longtime Ventura resident, died Wednesday at the Venturan Convalescent Home. She was 84.

A native of Silver Lake, Minn., Houseman moved to Ventura 25 years ago. She was a homemaker who loved to cook, said her husband, Irvin L. Houseman.

He said they celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary Dec. 14.

In addition to her husband, Houseman is survived by her daughter, Carol Lee Surles, and son-in-law Dave Surles, both of Oxnard; her brothers, Frank and Thomas Romanowski, both of Minneapolis; and John Romanowski of Las Vegas; her sister, Clara Jacobsen of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Her son, Timothy John Hautzinger, died in 1933, and her first husband, John Peter Hautzinger died in 1941.

Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday and a service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, followed by burial at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
