Oxnard school board member Fred Judy said Saturday he plans to remain on the board despite his arrest last weekend on suspicion of attempted murder.
Judy was released from jail Monday after police said they did not have enough evidence to charge him with shooting Donald Jones after an early morning argument in a bar.
In a brief telephone interview, Judy said he was “not ready” to discuss the incident. But he said he does not intend to relinquish his seat on the board of the Oxnard Union High School District. “I haven’t been charged with anything,” Judy said.
Oxnard police said Saturday they are continuing to investigate the Jan. 29 shooting. Judy, an outspoken advocate for the homeless who founded the now-defunct Zoe Christian Center shelter, said he has informed the other school board members of his plans to continue.
Trustee Robert Q. Valles said he had not spoken with Judy and Trustee Jean B. Daily declined to comment. Two other school board members could not be reached for comment.
Jones, wounded in the neck in the shooting, was treated at a local hospital.
