Share

More than $75,000 raised from last year’s Strawberry Festival will be distributed to local charities and groups, including the Garden Grove Unified School District.

The Garden Grove Girls and Boys Clubs will get the largest share, $20,000, which will be used to finish renovating the club’s craft room, wood shop and gymnasium.

“Our goal is to give back to our community profits from the festival,” said Barbara Burch, this year’s festival president. She said the festival, held annually on Memorial Day weekend, has donated more than $2 million to local groups and charities since 1958.

The Fire Department will receive $10,000 to pay for firetruck equipment, and the Kiwanis Club of Garden Grove will get $9,000 for remodeling restrooms at Kiwanisland on Larson Street.

Other groups expected to receive grants are the John Henry Foundation ($3,000), Garden Grove Medical Center ($4,000), St. Paul’s Lutheran Church ($2,300), Garden Grove Community Adult Day Care Center ($2,000) and the Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce ($2,000).

The checks will be presented at a 6:30 p.m. ceremony Monday at the Garden Grove Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.
