MOORPARK : School-Choice Tours Planned for Parents

Parents in Moorpark will have the opportunity to tour local schools over the next two weeks so they can pick the best campus for their children in the fall.

The district will allow parents of elementary and middle school students to pick among seven schools, excluding the high school.

The choice is limited, however, by how full a school is. The district also will not allow movement of students that would upset racial balance.

The Moorpark policy is in line with the 1993 state law that allowed districts to adopt school-choice policies.

Last year, only a handful of parents chose to send their children to schools outside of their neighborhoods, said Clint Harper, a Moorpark school board member.

Applications are already available for parents interested in moving their children in September. The applications must be returned by March 1.

The schools will hold information sessions at all seven campuses. Tours will also be given. Call the individual schools for the date and time of the school tours. Here are the dates and times for the information nights:

Peach Hill (378-6307), Thursday, 6:30 p.m.
