CERRITOS : Civic Center to Be Site for Sheriff’s Substation

Share

City officials have selected the Civic Center at Bloomfield Avenue and 183rd Street as the location for a new sheriff’s substation.

The station and a two-story parking garage are to be built behind City Hall. The council also tentatively agreed to install a stoplight near the existing entrance on 183rd Street to help control traffic.

The complex will cost $9 million. The city sold $5.5 million in bonds last year to finance the project, and the council allocated an additional $3.5 million last week.

About 31 deputies will be assigned to the station, which is expected to be completed in two years.

The city currently is served by the Lakewood sheriff’s station.
