Extreme Technologies Inc.: The firm said Wednesday that Francis T. Phalen has stepped down as president and chief executive officer. Chairman Scott A. Mednick will take over his duties as CEO.

The company cited personal reasons for Phalen’s departure and would not say whether the position of president will be filled. Nor would Extreme say whether Mednick will remain CEO permanently.

Phalen remains on the company board and will continue to work as a consultant to Extreme. Phalen said he plans to “remain active from the sidelines.”

Mednick joined Extreme in December. In addition to serving as chairman of the Santa Ana consumer electronics company, he heads Mednick Group, an independent design and advertising company based in Culver City.
