Disney Hall

Freeing up of time and space and reduction of production costs for the Los Angeles Opera--hopefully with more operas produced--by completion of Disney Hall is reason enough to immediately complete the hall for the Los Angeles Philharmonic (“Disney Hall: Beyond the Building,” Feb. 1).

But equally--if not more--important, Disney Hall by its very nature is an immensely public building and a very public representation of Los Angeles. It is imperative that the hall be completed in the near future to show the state, the country and the world that Los Angeles, despite all the recent setbacks, is capable of rallying itself to complete a significant building to house great musical events.

Music is a great ambassador, not only within the city but throughout the world. And other countries, particularly those classical music-loving counties, when they see how much value we place upon classical music with a new hall, may be more inclined to do business here.
