SOUTH CENTRAL : Renamed Food Bank Has a Home for Now

Share

The area’s largest food bank, which was washed out by last month’s rains, has changed its name and found a temporary new home.

For the past few weeks, the South Central Emergency Services Network, formerly the Genesis Food Distribution Network, has set up shop at two local community organizations.

The group now receives food for more than 10,000 needy families at the offices of the Brotherhood Crusade and African American Unity Center. Delivery and distribution had taken place at the Genesis warehouse at 9411 S. Broadway.

That came to a halt Jan. 9 when driving rains tore through the roof of the facility and destroyed more than $400,000 in food and household supplies.

The group has changed its name to reflect its broad range of services.
