Berman Lacked Concern for Valley
In response to your Jan. 5 story, sing no sad songs for Howard Berman.
His reduced position in Washington’s power scheme will not only adversely affect his service to us here in the Valley but reflects his lack of concern for the needs of the Valley. Built around personal egos and a desire for political power, the Waxman/Berman machine has suffered a strong blow, not from home but from the rest of the country, where they had vested their real play for power.
Howard Berman has always felt that it was more important and politically expedient to influence others’ campaigns: He spends less than 10% of his war chest on his own campaign and at times 50% or more to help others win, and thereby win their loyalty.
Six terms do take something out of that first day in session as well as take away the ability to truly represent Valley issues.
