COUNTYWIDE : Scouts Kick Off Their Annual Food Drive

Share

Hoping to collect up to 50,000 pounds of food for local charities, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from across Ventura County fanned out Saturday to collect canned foods for their annual food drive.

Mary Burns, who coordinated the efforts in Ventura, said the 253 uniformed Scouts who participated there collected about 5,000 tins of canned food.

“It’s a lot,” said Burns, after returning from delivering the Ventura Scouts’ donation to Project Understanding, a local nonprofit organization. “It’s more than we’ve ever had before.”

“It couldn’t all fit in the pantry at Project Understanding,” she said.

Figures for collections in other Ventura County cities were not immediately available.
