2 More Carriers Cap Agents’ Commissions: United Airlines and USAir, matching actions taken last week by American, Delta and Northwest, said they will cap commissions paid to travel agents for writing domestic tickets. That means five of the nation’s six biggest airlines now limit agents’ payments, rather than pay them a standard 10% commission, in order to cut their own operating costs. The change is a major setback for travel agencies, and their trade group, the American Society of Travel Agents, scheduled an emergency meeting Feb. 18-19 in Washington to address the matter.
